More than 100 years of history

In the year 1913, was when the Group 7 was funded, more precisely at 20th of May. In that time the scarf chosen by the elements of its foundations was black. Later on was added a white stripe and the fleur-de-lis at the vertex, and then the Group 7 got know by all the others Scouts from the Association of Portuguese Scouts, as the “Cheerful-Widows”. That same scarf is maintained as it is nowadays, with the same values and principals as 100 years ago.

Since the date of inauguration until today, Group 7 assumes as a well living group, full of dynamism and energy. With characteristics well defined and its own, Group 7 has being accomplish an important task since its foundation with all the young that pass thought this group. This fact is well visible, because all of them left their mark in this great movement.

By influence of the 1st Group, and by the consequence of the initiative of Abel dos Santos e Silva and Luciano Silva, both members of ACM, the Goup 7 was founded by the União Cristã de Jovens, that was located in the congregational church, its headquarters was in the Street Angra do Heroísmo in Lisbon. José Rodrigues was an enthusiast scout that supported the first scout leader Luciano Silva and then assumed the headship. Adail José Conceição Rodrigues, the same enthusiast scout was the second group leader.

Group 7 also passed through several difficulties, considering the political regime at that time in Portugal. It is not certain when and why Group 7 left the Association of Portuguese Scouts, and joined the Adueiros de Portugal, but it is certain that in August of 1916, in an written article in the nº9 of the magazine “O escoteiro”, the Group 7 still made part of the Association. Also it can be found in an article from “Ilustração portuguesa” (magazine edited by the newspaper “O Século”), from 26th of March 1921, the Group makes part of the Adueiros, where got the number 9. Later on joins once again the Association of Portuguese Scouts and gets the number 7 back until the days of today.

Around the year 1945, Group 7 loses its headquarter and contacts the Lisbon Volunteer Firefighters, proposing a partnership that would arrange a place where it could meet in the firefighter headquarters. The headquarters it is in the Camilo Castelo Branco Street. Since that year that the partnership never ended and it is where we find ourselves headquartered until the days of today. We are honorary members of the Lisbon Volunteer Firefighters and we are very proud of that.

We cannot forget to make reference of Armando Carlos, most well-known by “Olho de Lince” (lynx-Eye), one of the group leaders of Group7, and head until 2006. Was a leader that marked a scout generation in the Group and the Association of Portuguese Scouts. Followed by Mário Carmo, also known as "Urso Vermelho" (Red Bear) that gave the Group7 between 2006 and 2009 bigger opening, modernism and visibility in terms of image and training that made the Group reach one of their biggest effective. In this moment it is the turn of Paulo Franco to be the Group Leader, the "Papagaio Roncador" (Snorer Parrot) that continues to sustain the foundations of the Group 7.

A historical mark achieved by the current leadership was the opening of the Cubs division in 2010, which was closed since the 70’s.

The more than 100 years of existing, make the Group 7, one of the oldest and with more traditions in the Association of Portuguese Scouts. It is with this responsibility that the current generation continues to find their way to the future.
